Birth Announcement!!! (Updated)

We are happy to announce the birth of our cousin, Alexander Seth Thiessen. Son of Willie and Marcella Thiessen. We haven't seen him yet but we are very excited. He was born yesterday, June 5, 2012, in the evening.
His second name is Seth which is very fitting. He is "instead of Abel (Caleb)". Caleb was Willie and Marcella's firstborn son but he died in February 2010. I'm sure that Alexander will bring back so many memories of Caleb. Caleb always wished for a little brother but he never got one in his lifetime. I'm sure that his three sisters, Abigail, Danielle, and Janaya, are proud of their new only brother.

HOORAY!! We're Done School!

We are very glad to complete our 7th year of homeschooling. Well, I have had seven years and the rest of the children have been homeschooled all their lives. I finished grade 9 and started a little bit of grade 10, the triplets finished grade 5 all except for their math and some science that they'll work on through the summer, Samuel finished grade 3 and started grade 4, and Elfrieda did Kindergarten and started Learning to Read. The triplets and I had a bit of a harder math year but we're looking forward to a better tomorrow (or "School year). 

  We have really enjoyed our weekend. On Saturday Mama, Bianca, Imelda, Edgar, Samuel, and I got up at six o'clock in the morning to go to a HUGE garage sale. We had a lot of fun finding bargains and treasures. I got brand new Sketchers for a dollar, and I also got a stand to prop books on to play violin. I found a neat piano duet book called Hooked on Easy Piano Duets, it came with a CD with all the songs recorded. Some of my favorites are these: "Peter Piper" (Frank Mills), "The Music Box Dancer" (Frank Mills), "Canon in D" (Johann Pachelbel), and "Chop Sticks" (DeLulli). I'm hoping to learn those duets with somebody. 

  We found a lot of other treasures including a Willow Tree Figure of a man and his wife. We got home around 7:30 a.m.. Then I made waffles and mama made homeade pudding for breakfast. YUMMY!

Daddy and the boys went to work and I took Elfrieda and Leandro to the garage sale since they didn't go early in the morning while Mama and the girls worked at home. 

 Janice and Nacho came around 2:30 and we had Rollkuchen (A Mennonite specialty) with our first watermelon together. It was really good. We had lots of fun with them until 5:30 p.m. when they went home. 

  Eric and Anna came in the evening and we had a really good time with them too. 

  Today, we went to church and had fellowship meal. It was really good. Elisabeth and I played a few games of Dutch Blitz with ups-and-downs. It has been raining all day and now we're just having a relaxing afternoon at home.

Cleaning the Truck

We cleaned the truck for Daddy yesterday and we enjoyed it. I was waiting for something to blog about and so I decided that this was a good opportunity. The boys vacuumed and wiped it and then Samuel and I put a protective coating on everything. Afterwards, everyone helped wash and dry the outside.

Washing the Driveway

  We children thoroughly washed the driveway on Tuesday so that we could put sealer on it. Since we have an exposed aggregate driveway (Yes, I'm a cementer's daughter) we have to put sealer on it to keep it looking nice. We did it when it was just done and now it was high time that we did it again. We had lots of fun making it wet, scrubbing it, and then rinsing it off again. Here's some pictures.

Happy Birthday to a Dear Mama

Happy 38th birthday Mama. We love you. I know we often don't realize how much you do for us but we want to thank you for the many things that you do 'behind the scenes'. Thank you for your love, consideration, wisdom, reminders, comments, and your good example. Thank you for memorizing so much scripture and so many songs with us. Thank you for forgiving us. (Even when your oldest daughter breaks your best teakettle and you know that you'll probably never get one like it again.) Thank you for being our teacher and being concerned about what we learn. Thank you for faithfully cooking our meals and washing our clothing.  Whenever I read Proverbs 31 (as I did this morning) I have to think of you. Here are some verses from that chapter which I think describe you: (after the picture.)

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband does safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool and flax and worketh (and worketh and worketh) willingly with her hands. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She is not afraid of snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet (warm clothing {I am often thankful that you have taught us to dress warmly}).
